In Loving Memory Of Zoom

Postby CollieWarp » Wed Jul 21, 2010 3:47 am

I was given Zoom by my second grade teacher. Zoom was a mini rex. I was seven years old. She was named 'Zoom' because, for the first couple years of her life, she just never stopped zooming around her surroundings, jumping and bounding happily. Zoom and I would cuddle together, and sometimes we would take naps on the couch, or on my bed. She had an attitude, but I could always sway her with a treat or two. She loved forehead scritches the most.

She once had a loving mate, Chester, the lop eared wonder, who unfortunately died a mere two years after we rescued him. They had two litters together, both which did not survive, before we decided to be responsible and not breed again. Her little companion, Frisco, was also a rescue, and though they did not live together, they often touched noses through the bars of their cages.

Zoom had to be put down on the 15th of June, 2010 after a brief but devastating bout with fly strike. I had her for seven, almost eight, wonderful years She is dearly missed by Frisco and I, but I know that Chester and their little ones will guide her over the Rainbow Bridge and forever bound through the eternal fields beyond.

Thank you so much for your kind words. They mean a lot to me.

I've found some pictures of Zoom - we have very few pictures of her, as she tended to run away, or try and attack the camera when we brought it out. She was sometimes a little monster. X3

This is an image of her after she had her nails clipped last year, cuddled up to my Grandfather. She was, and still is, the only one of my rabbits who wasn't afraid of my Grandpa right off the bat (All my rabbits were afraid of everyone, especially my Grandpa. All of them except Zoom.)

And here she is, giving him a kiss.

Yes, Zoom was a mini rex. I never quite understood why they called them 'mini', as Zoom was always pretty big. I always had a hard time carrying her, which is why she rarely got picked up - she always went places by herself. I have a feeling that she might just have been a rex. X3

Gosh, she really resembled my Alice - also a Mini Rex. Though Alice was the same size as Esme, who is a Mini Lop. Poor Alice got a parasite in her spine, which paralyzed her. She was a total fraidy bun though, nothing like Zoom! And she had giant eyes with long lashes, like a cow! :)

Condolances on your loss - I know the feeling too well.

My mini-rex is sooo small compared to Zoom! I think Quincy is the result of a rex-nethie cross. He's only 4.5 pounds/2 kg. He has really stubby ears compared to some of the other minis I've seen on here, especially Basil.
